Sally
Interim World Centre Manager

Sally is from Canberra, Australia but has spent the past six years managing Sangam World Centre in India. So, she is swapping saris and rickshaws for hiking boots and gondolas! She has been involved in Guiding since early childhood and is passionate about WAGGGS and in particular the opportunities provided for international friendship and personal development at all of the World Centres. Sally is delighted to now have the opportunity to lead our first World Centre here in the beautiful Bernese Oberland of Switzerland, such a contrast and with a new range of challenges and adventures to Sangam and India. She very much looks forward to meeting guests and volunteers over the coming months.


Sarah

Sarah
Deputy World Centre Manager

Sarah is from Sydney, Australia. She has been involved in Girl Guides since she was seven. Sarah enjoys the outdoors and is keen to ensure opportunities are available for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to try new things and learn new skills. Sarah looks forward to the opportunity and challenges of further developing her recreation and tourism career within WAGGGS at Our Chalet and also taking her Guiding promise into the wider world.

Korana
Programme Manager

Korana comes from Slovenia and has been involved in Guiding and Scouting since she was 14. She has been a Guide/Scout as well as a Ranger/Rover Leader for several years. She is interested in advocacy, environment and leadership development topics. Korana loves the outdoors and enjoys hiking, swimming, climbing and ice skating. She believes there is a leader in every one of us and is keen on ensuring a programme in a challenging and international environment that will enable young people to develop their life and leadership skills. For fun she loves art, dancing, music and making other people laugh. 
 

Georgina
Office Manager

Georgina is from Southampton, England. At university she studied Archaeology and hopes to work in a museum one day. She has been involved in Scouting and Guiding since she was seven, which has given her the opportunity to have adventures, learn, travel and meet lots of friends. She was very lucky to take part in the Scouting Centenary Camp on Brownsea Island in 2007. She loves to travel and dance, tell bad jokes, ski, eat chocolate and sing when she’s let into the kitchen. 

Katie
Assistant Programme Manager

Katie is from Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom and has been involved in Guiding since she was four years old. She loves all outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking and camping (especially campfires!) and can’t wait to work as part of the Programme Team at Our Chalet. She has recently graduated with a degree in Modern Languages, so is looking forward to trying out her Swiss German!  


Veronica
Kitchen Coordinator

Veronica is from Melbourne, Australia. She has been involved in the Scouting movement for 12 years and was a Scout Leader at several Cub and Scout groups. She worked as a secondary school teacher for a few years, teaching Health and Food Technology. Veronica enjoys learning about anything relating to health such as physical, psychological and nutritional health. She is
looking forward to working with an international team and skiing the amazing
Swiss Alps.

Christoph

Christoph
Grounds and Maintenance Assistant

Christoph is from Bavaria in Germany. Christoph has an education in auto mechanics and he has worked with machinery in the printing industry. He has been in scouting since he was 10 and has been a scout leader since he was 18. He has three children who have also been (or still are) in scouting. Christoph has always wanted to work in a scout centre, so this was his lucky chance. The spirit of Our Chalet has made a big impression on him, and he loves working here.

Skippy Storrow
Our Chalet Cat

Skippy is from Adelboden, in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. Her Scouting experience is quite vast as she has spent much of her time at Our Chalet. She explores the grass, eats bugs and protects the grounds and guests from any possible predators like marmots and slugs. In her free time she likes to soak up rays and chase cows.
 

Alicia
Summer Volunteer

Alicia is from Richmond, Virginia, United States of America. She has been involved in Girl Scouts since age six and worked last summer as a hiking guide at Kandersteg International Scout Centre. In the US she studies Psychology at the University of Virginia and will be a third year student this fall. She loves hiking in the Swiss Alps, running, skiing, traveling, and cooking/baking. She is excited to be a part of the Our Chalet staff team and is looking forward to meeting the Guides and Scouts who come to Our Chalet. 

 

Cheryl
Summer Volunteer

Cheryl is from Chicago, Illinois in the United States of America and will turn 22 this Summer. She graduated from the University of Michigan in May and studied History and American Culture. She has been a Girl Scout since she was five years old. She loves sports, especially baseball, football and tennis, but cannot play them, and can usually be found with numerous bruises on her arms and legs. At Our Chalet, Cheryl hopes to work on her German skills and meet people from all over the world. 

 
 

Emi
Summer Volunteer

Emi is from Tokyo, Japan, and is 22 years old. She has recently graduated from University, and studied International Relations. She has been scouting since when she was seven, and is now a Junior Scout Leader. She likes traveling around world: to The Netherlands, Mongolia, Cambodia, USA and Australia. She enjoys playing piano, swimming, running, drawing, making DVDs and taking photos. She is also a twin (boy and girl)! 

 
 

Emiko
Summer Volunteer

Emiko is from Kanagawa, Japan. She has been involved in Girl Scouts since she was six years old. She worked as a preschool teacher after studying about Human Welfare at University. She likes playing with kids, cooking and watching movies. It has been her big dream to work as a volunteer at Our Chalet since her first visit in 2006. It is good chance to improve her English and also enjoy a Swiss Summer. She is looking forward to meeting many people from all over the world at Our Chalet! 

 
 

Emily
Summer Volunteer

Emily is twenty two years and from Greentown, Pennsylvania, United States of America. She is currently a senior at Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas. Whoop! She is studying Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences and will graduate in December. Emily has been in Scouting since she was five. She is a Gold Award recipient, has participated in eight Destinations and for the third year will remain as Vice President of Aggie Girl Scouts at Texas A & M. Emily also has a third year brownie troop in College Station. This is the third WAGGGS World Centre that Emily has been to and hopes to complete her challenge of four World Centres in four years by visiting Sangam, next Spring.

 

Janet
Summer Volunteer

Janet is from Sydney, Australia, and been traveling the world for the past five years. She has been Guiding since she was seven, been to an International Event at Sangam in 2004 and returned to Sangam as a Community Volunteer Programme Participant for five months in 2004/2005. She has visited three of the four WAGGGS World Centres, and only has Our Cabana to go! She is looking forward to working at Our Chalet throughout the fun crazy summer season before continuing her travels.

 
 

Maria
Summer Volunteer

Maria is eighteen years old and is from West Virginia, United States of America. She has been a Girl Scout for 10 years. She just graduated from high school and will be attending West Virginia University as an International Studies major when she returns home. She is very happy to be spending her Summer in a foreign country and looks forward to many exciting adventures in Switzerland.

 
 

Nancy
Summer Volunteer

Nancy is from Uganda, and has been involved in Guiding since 13. She has studied Community Psychology at Makerere University. In her home country, Nancy has been a peer educator for HIV/AIDS projects and an HIV/AIDS activist and promoter of under privileged youth. She has been a Leader in Girl Guides for Young Leaders. She likes making friends, traveling, hiking, rafting and mixing with new cultures. She is very happy to be a Summer Volunteer at Our Chalet, as it has been a life long dream that she will cherish.

 

Sammie
Summer Volunteer

Sammie is from Lancashire in north west England, and lives in the Lake District where she studies Animal Conservation Science at Cumbria University. Sammie is a Brownie Guide Leader and works at the Scout Water Activity Centre in the Lake District as a kayak and sailing instructor. Sammie enjoys white water kayaing, climbing and anything else outdoors. She can’t wait to travel and work around the world, with Our Chalet hopefully being the first of many. 

 

Sarah
Summer/Autumn Volunteer

Sarah is from Portstewart in Northern Ireland. She’s been in Guiding since Rainbows, and is now a Brownie Leader. She’s currently studying French and German, and is taking the summer and early autumn to work on her language skills and hike the Swiss Alps. She believes that life is about overcoming your fears and pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone and recently celebrated her twentieth birthday by jumping off a bridge. She’s looking forward to meeting all the wonderful Guides and Scouts that are visiting the Chalet this summer and encouraging them to embrace the craziness and adventure of the Our Chalet experience!

 

Sonja
Summer Volunteer

Sonja is from Fareham, near Portsmouth in the United Kingdom. She was born in Republic of Ireland and moved to the UK when she was very young. Sonja has been in Guiding since she was five years old and is currently an Assistant Guide Guider. Sonja is currently on her gap year after completing her A Levels last July. In September she will start University and to study Business and Marketing. She couldn’t think for a better way to end her gap year than working at Our Chalet and is looking forward to trying anything the local area has to offer!

 

Vanessa
Summer Volunteer

Vanessa is from California, United States of America. She was been in Scouting since age seven and stayed active through college. She graduated last year from Whitman College where she studied Film and Biochemistry. Vanessa is excited to hike and travel in Switzerland and hopes to enjoy some swimming and rafting. She loves adventure and can’t think of a better place to find it!
