During the time OUR CHALET is open in the year 1999 - the last before the turn of the millennium - we have chosen to work with the theme:
Don't stop us now& -
Women towards the new millennium
How would the world look like if 50% of the World Citizens could use their creative and emotional power a little bit more? We will try to find answers during this year&
...don't stop us!
This summer, we held an activity based on the theme, part of which involved creating a song which expressed the dreams and hopes for the future of the girls.
Below is a small selection of the compositions!
Wishing Wells - to the tune of 'Jingle Bells'
We thought at Our Chalet of what we'd like to be
And everyone was special in different sorts of ways.
There are so many things that we would like to do
And now we want to share these with everyone of you
Ohhhhh
Helping people, going to college, making a career
Like teaching, medicine, helping animals, and also an engineer
Ohhhhh
Being happy and successful and have a family
These are things we'd love to be
And hope we will achieve
Our song is nearly done and we hope you all can see
There's many different things in life that you could choose to be
So everyone must think, and wisely make a choice
It all comes down to you, so stand and raise your voice
To the tune of 'She'll be coming round the mountain'
We'll be useful and real friendly Guides and Scouts
We'll be travellers and grandmothers Guides and Scouts
We'll be helping one another
Building family planning clinics
We'll be there, where we are needed Guides and Scouts.
When disaster strikes we'll serve there, yes we will
We will foster strength in others, yes we will
We will show our sisters courage
We will educate our children
We will rise and meet the challenge, yes we will.
We will face the future bravely, women true
There is nothing that we cannot really do
We are strong and we are many
We won't stop until we're ready
And that prince will still be waiting when we're through.
'Someday in our lives' to the tune of 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'
Someday I will be famous, rich and strong.
I'll have a family, friends that I can count on.
So when you stand big and tall and say your promise to one and all
Remember…Girl Scouting and Guiding is our way,
So come and follow us day by day
To Our Chalet.
Someday I'll travel the wide world near and far,
Leading girls in their lives with Scouting as our Guiding star.
To the tune of 'Make new friends'
Dare to dream and make your dreams come true.
Strong young women we believe in you.
Reach and grow, let no one hold you back.
Care for one another as you walk along the track.
To the tune of 'She'll be coming round the mountain'
Can a woman be a lawyer? Yes she can, yes she can
Can she be an engineer? Yes she can, yes she can.
Can a woman lead a nation?
Can she make a big impression?
Can she engineer a suburb? Yes she can, yes she can.
Can a woman be a doctor? Yes she can, yes she can
Can a woman be a mother? Yes she can, yes she can.
Can a woman be a teacher?
Can a woman be a beauty?
Can she be a researcher? Yes she can, yes she can.
Just you wait until we're older, then you'll see.
We'll be women in tomorrow's history.
As we grow up through the years,
We can sing out loud and clear.
Can we start the process here? Yes we can, yes we can!
Tune: How many roads…(by the staff)
How many things can we do in our lives?
We can do anything we want
Travel and learn, like what we do
Write novels, play hard and splurge.
Chorus:
Answer the question what am I doing here.
I must not live in fear.
Live and play go to every place
Keep my independence too
Family, children, body, soul and brains
Dancing, singing in the rain!
Chorus
Enjoying little things like making a quilt
Or sowing all my badges on my blanket
Being valued and respected for everything I do
Trying hard to balance all I do
Chorus
