Swiss National Day at Our Chalet
4 August 2011
The excitement never ends here at Our Chalet. Right after the Chalet’s birthday came Swiss National Day held annually on August 1st since 1994.
To celebrate Swiss National day the staff and guests ofOur Chalet began their day bright and early at 9am with a hike to either the adventure park or abseiling and the woodcarvers. Flags were flying high everywhere we turned. Upon return to the chalet, girls made lanterns and got ready for the evening.
Dinner was bratwurst and mashed potatoes, with a side of laughs and memories. At 7pm, closing ceremonies of the event began, girls received their challenge patches and from then on the Swiss party sprit was alive. Chalet staff distributed Swiss balloons, Swiss flags, and lanterns girls had made throughout the day.
Over eighty girls headed into Adelboden town, singing the chalet song and waving their flags high, eager to participate in all the excitement. Celebration festivities were underway in town, the evening was filled with yodellers, alphorn players, bagpipers, speeches in English, Swiss German and French, and beautiful traditional Swiss dances. The evening continued with a parade of children, guides, scouts, performers, lanterns and flags! As it got dark, the sky filled with beautiful fireworks, accompanied by cheers from the girls. Adelboden came alive with the Guiding and Scouting spirit. The night came to an end in Adelboden with an enormous circle of girls singing Taps.
