Chalet Celebrates Centenary!
11 April 2011
Staff at Our Chalet celebrated Centenary Day yesterday. We took the theme “Grow” and based our day of activities around this.
We planted 100 seeds and bulbs around the Chalet grounds and then watered them and hope that they will grow. With flowers starting to appear in the gardens, we were reminded that spring is the start of new things.
Our next challenge took the form of making centenary passports. We added our own reflections on the Centenary, what Guiding means to us and what we hope will be achieved by the end of the celebrations.
As the centenary celebrates 100 years of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting, we took the theme of 100 miles and recorded the location of Our Chalet on a world map. We then asked everyone present at the Chalet to add their own home location with the aim of showing that we have travelled more than 100 miles to get here. With staff members here from as far away as South Korea and Rwanda, this was very successful.

There was time for personal reflection during our next activity which was a photograph collage. Each person was asked to bring ten photographs that represent growth and achievement. These were shared and explained during a discussion and then posted on a wall to remind us of our achievements and continue to inspire us.
Staff at Our Chalet also shared Centenary Day with staff and participants at Our Cabana in Mexico during a Skype session which enabled us to talk to the Sunflower girls who were having a party.
Our last activity for Centenary Day happened during dinner when we shared a birthday cake decorated with a tree to symbolize growth and the future.
Bring on the next 100 years!
