World Thinking Day greetings from Our Chalet

We send our best wishes to all the Guides and Scouts around the world on this special day.

Here at Our Chalet, the current volunteer and staff team would like to share this video message with you.

The theme for World Thinking Day 2010 is girls worldwide say ‘together we can end extreme poverty and hunger’ and the aim is to raise awareness among everyone about the situation and improve the lives of the poorest people in the world.

Our Chalet staff team commenced preparations for World Thinking Day in October 2009, including a workshop on global food and poverty issues and an educational trip to the UN in Geneva. The aim of the event was to mark World Food Day and Stand Up Against Poverty by educating participants on global food and poverty related issues so as to enable them to make their own personal commitment.

Events coming up

From 14 – 20 February 2010, Our Chalet will host over 600 Guides from the United Kingdom for a special World Thinking Day and Centenary Celebration Event ‘The Great Guide Getaway’. Participants from Girlguiding UK will stay at Our Chalet and in the surrounding area, and enjoy a day of onsite activities, outdoor winter activities and excursions nearby. All guests will come together on the final evening for an extraordinary World Thinking Day Ceremony.

On 22 February 2010, staff and guests will have the special experience of spending World Thinking Day at a WAGGGS World Centre: enjoying snow based activities, a snow barbeque and a unique ceremony.

For the remainder of this month (while stocks last), World Thinking Day 2010 pins and cloth badges and other WAGGGS items are available for guests to purchase at the Our Chalet on site shop.

Centenary celebrations will continue throughout the year with highlights during upcoming Seminars and Events, and our special ‘100 peaks for 100 years’ Centenary Events in October 2010.
