“After such a wonderful experience at Our Cabana I thought of applying to another WAGGGS world centre, Our Chalet preferably because of great memories visiting as a guide. I stared at my computer screen in disbelief when I read I was not only offered a place in the Our Chalet staff but as programme coordinator. It sounded like a huge step up from what was previously asked of me. My time at Our Chalet is nearly up and I feel I have come such a long way from when I first arrived. I have gained such confidence in my abilities. I thank Our Chalet for pushing me to do things I never thought possible.”
“Every volunteer’s first few days are filled with learning as much about Our Chalet and how to do everything from cleaning the bathrooms, running the cash register in the shop, where the trash cans are, hikes regulations and safety... The longer I was at our Chalet, and the more accustomed to where everything was and how to do everything, the more time I got to know the other staff members and I realized these people are amazing. Everyone was actively involved in their national Guiding/Scouting association back home, and everyone was happy to be here. More than their passion for Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting was their achievements in life.”
“Although I will be pleased to get home, especially my own home and own bed, I think I will miss this place. When I arrived at Our Chalet, I was told it was my home while I stayed here and now it certainly feels like it. I have seen beautiful sites, climbed mountains that feel like the top of the world, the panoramic views are just amazing, it is hard to describe. It is amazing that I have had the opportunity of being somewhere that girls and women all over the world dream of being themselves.”
